We ride this regularly starting at the south end, Torrance Bch.
Cons:We usually don't go past Venice and almost always don't go past Dockweiler. Once you get into Venice it's always crowded with inexperienced cyclists and pedestrians walking where they shouldn't. Throughout the trail many fast moving e-bikes with generally younger and inexperienced riders. They are not allowed in most places but is not enforced by the local Police. Roller bladers also can be a hazard.
Pros: Beautiful ocean views, plenty of places to stop, eat, bathroom break, etc. Riviera Village in Redondo Bch is a short detour off the trail as well as the main road going through Hermosa.
All in all a nice ride for a relaxing time.
We stayed at Ventura Beach RV-pricey but the location is perfect. The trail is outside the front of the RV park-easy to follow signs and find. At the north end of this trail it joins the Ojai Trail. The flowering bushes were breathtaking.
We rode from Dockweiler RV Park North today (Sunday). Not as much traffic this way and a big portion of the trail has a separate walking section. Fun to go thru Venice! It is 9.5 miles to the Santa Monica pier and another 2.5 (total 12) to the blocked off section by National guard. That is the start of the fire area from the palisade fire. Never bored on this trail.
We stay at Dockweiler State RV which is right on the trail. From the RV to the south end of the trail is 9 miles. Lots of fun things to look at/people to see/places to eat. Try to avoid Sat&Sun if you can. Lots lots of walkers/dogs/other bikers but nobody seems bothered by anything. We love camping here and riding this trail. Never boring.
It starts off well and goes to ¿ real quick. The train track crossing was cool the people living on the bike path doing drugs were not. Not the best place to go on a date.
We were here Sunday after Thanksgiving. Nice tree lined trail through the town. Not many people.
Parking lot was closed when we tried to visit. No signage to explain why.

This is a great trail. We start in Ventura and head up. As long as you pay attention you are fine. The guy behind us took quite a spill on a section of pavement that lifted due to tree roots. We all stopped to check and minis quite a road rash, he was thankfully OK.
This path sits between, and is connected to, the Ojai Valley Trail as well as the Omer Raines Coastal Path. It is in good condition, and as of June/July 2024 undergoing a very substantial improvement on a fairly lengthy section. The grades are mild, the scenery decent, and only a few rough patches. Safe for kids. Highly recommend extending onto the Omer Raines path, as well as the path up to Ojai, if you're feeling energetic.
